dressing with meaning
my dear friend stephanie included me (as 1 of 30 meaningful women) in her incredible art project dressing with meaning: a series of experiments exploring the significance of clothing to discover a better-fitting future. as a participant she shipped a handmade dress from her home in nyc to mine in la and I reported on my experience while wearing it.
from the moment I put it on, the oscillating dress brought me back to my first and constant love; dance. the way that the fabric swirled through space made me feel weightless and free. since this day, I have found myself coming back to those feelings over and over again. in a way, this was the reminder I needed, the reminder to follow only what makes me glow from the inside out.
“when I'm taking my last breath, I want to look at how I used up the best of myself. how much did I sweat, push, pull, rip, fall, hit, crash, explode? my dream is to be so well used that in my last half-second, I just burst into dust.” - elizabeth streb, choreographer
